RURAL MUNICIPALITY VOTING REQUIREMENTS

Local Government Elections – Saskatchewan

Who Can Vote?

To vote in a Rural Municipality election, you must be:

1. A Canadian Citizen

2. At Least 18 Years Old on Election Day

3. Eligible Under ONE of the Following:

• Resident Eligibility

  • Lived in the RM (or land in the RM) for 3+ consecutive months before election day.

• Property Eligibility

  • Registered owner of property in the RM; OR

  • Assessed person for property under The Municipalities Act; OR

  • Occupant of a permitted trailer/mobile home in the RM.

• Spousal Eligibility

  • Spouse of any person who qualifies under the above categories.

• Corporate/Association Eligibility

  • Chief Executive Officer of a co‑op, corporation, or religious association assessed on the RM tax roll (non‑exempt property).

Voter Identification Required

Bring one of the following:

• Photo ID with name & address (e.g., Saskatchewan Driver’s Licence)     OR

• Two pieces of ID

  • Both must show your name

  • At least one must show your address                                                 OR

• Vouching

  • Another eligible voter from the same RM division may vouch for you.

 

Where Do You Vote?

You may vote in only one division, determined by:

1. Where you reside, OR

2. If you live outside the RM: where your property is assessed

   • If multiple properties: vote where the highest assessed value is located.
